The Present Moment
2009Posted by Gustav 14 Nov, 2009 02:55Me and Emmy are having a wonderful time with our new little baby! The other night he was sleeping next to me, while I was adding subtitles to a another video clip with Nishijima. In this short clip, Nishijima says that the only real time is the present moment. I looked at the sleeping baby and smiled, because he surely helps us see more clearly how real the present moment is!
Now it is time for me to do zazen and prayers before the baby wakes up. Here is the video clip, followed by one of my favourite poems:
For thirty years, a traveller in search of a sword.
How many times have leaves fallen and buds sprouted?
After one look at the peach blossoms,
I have arrived directly at the present and have no further doubts.
Poem from Master Dogen's Shobogenzo and Shinji Shobogenzo.
Calligraphy by Gudo Nishijima, Tokyo 2007.
